London enjoyed a brief spell of Mediterranean inspired weather over the weekend, with many taking to their local park to bask in the rays in hopes of catching a tan. With temperatures reported to be hitting 25c in most areas, the capital’s parks became a beacon of activiy.
Sun worshipers did however come under fire, as images across social media exposing a mass of litter left in their wake started popping up. Images showing discarded beer cans, disposable BBQ’s, empty food containers and bottles left across the beautiful green spaces started trending on twitter and Instagram. The weekend “litter-gate” has now sparked an intense council clean up. Park goers have been labelled as “thoughtless” by one hackney counillor for not using allocated bins or taking their rubbish home.
As a result, certain boroughs will now be looking to the police to establish what has been labelled as “enforcement days” during the hottest days of the summer. Lesson to be learnt? Enjoy the summer sun (well as much as we will get)…but be responsible with your rubbish.
